This map was generated by Evan Lyons for a paper submitted to the International Journal of Remote Sensing. The map shows a section of the Barrow Peninsula in northern Alaska. The red and green colors represent elevation with green indicating lower and red indicating higher values. There are 12 lakes, one airport, and one town included in the map. The lakes were used to study the accuracy of a remote sensing based lake map product. The lakes were surveyed by DGPS in August of 2008. It includes a north arrow and a scale bat in kilometers. I like this map because it puts the location of the study lakes into perspective relative to the Arctic Ocean and the low relief landscape. Notice that the color scale for the elevation data only spans from 0 to 12 meters.
